Make IA state ID barcodes with a web browser and Photoshop

Post  zeusk on Sun Jul 08, 2012 4:20 pm

This article and many others are available at: ****://www.fakeid.tv/articles

This article will explain how to create Iowa PDF417 and Code 128 barcodes for IA state issued IDs. All you need is a web browser and photoshop to do this. No other programs are required. This uses a demo java servlet (no need to have Java enabled) hosted at ****://www.idautomation.com. If you create a barcode using this method then all of your information will go through the ****://www.idautomation.com server. They may or may not be logging usage of their demo application. If you are concerned about them logging your usage then you can download the installation files for their demo or purchase their commercial version and install it on your computer. The instructions below are based off of an IA 4th quarter of 2000 style ID.

PDF417 Barcode creation instructions for IA at 1200dpi.

    1) Go to ****://www.idautomation.com/java/pdf417servlet.html
    Set the following options:
    Number of columns: 10
    Number of rows: 0
    Error correction level: 2
    X to Y ration: 3
    X Dimension: 0.03
    Process Tilde: Yes
    Compaction Mode: Binary
    Image Height: 200 pixels
    Image Width: 250 pixels

    2) Edit the string below to reflect what is displayed on the IA front PSD file. Remove all brackets and only change information in between brackets. All lettering has to be in upper case. You must use ?~032? for all space characters. Whenever you want a space, do not hit the space bar, you~032must~032do~032it~032like~032this. 032 is the decimal value for the ASCII space character.

    @~010~028~013AAMVA36018001DL~032~03228~032205DL~01 0DAB[LASTNAME]~010DAC[FIRSTNAME]~010DAD[MIDDLENAME]~010DAL[STREETADDRESS]~010DAN[CITY]~010DAOIA~010DAP[ZIPCODE]~010DAQ[LICENSENUMBER]~010DARC~010DASO~010DATO~010DAU[HEIGHT]~010DAW[WEIGHT]~010DAY[EYECOLOR]~010DBA[EXPIRATIONDATEYYYYMMDD]~010DBB[BIRTHDATEYYYYMMDD]~010DBC[SEX]~010DBD[ISSUEDATEYYYYMMDD]~010DBGNN~010DBHN~010DBJ[UNIQUECUSTOMERIDENTIFIER]~010ZAA[AUDITNUMBER]~013

Here is an example of how a finished string should appear:

    @~010~028~013AAMVA36018001DL~032~03228~032205DL~01 0DABWILSON~010DACKEITH~010DADJACK~010DAL5050~032TH ESTATION~032DR~010DANJACKTOWN~010DAOIA~010DAP50548 ~010DAQ485244351~010DARC~010DASO~010DATO~010DAU510 ~010DAW165~010DAYBLU~010DBA20041028~010DBB19781028 ~010DBCM~010DBD20001020~010DBGNN~010DBHN~010DBJ485 1987564890~010ZAA53327358~013

    3) Cut and paste the edited string into the "Data To Encode:" box and click the "Create Barcode" button. The barcode will be generated as an image in a new window. Right click over the image and save it as a bmp file. Do not save it as a jpeg.

    4) Open the bmp file in Photoshop and select from the pull down menu Image>Image Size, set the dpi to 1200, check the resample box, set the selection box to Nearest Neighbor and click OK.
